Couples
Building your registry online is like taking a stroll in a Walmart store. On one hand, you have a full catalog of gift ideas presented to you. But couples can also visit the web storefront as usual, and instead of adding an attractive pot or vase to the cart they can mark it as a registry item. There is also the option to add on-site products to the list. While shopping in store, use the downloadable Walmart app to scan the barcodes, effectively linking them to the registry. This is extremely helpful for couples who wish to check the quality of the gifts before putting them onto the wish list. Unfortunately, adding any products other than Walmart’s is out of question.
Guests
The registry can be shared either by email or by posting the link on Facebook, a method that is far more effective than sending out traditional registry lists. The registry menu is a bit barebones from the viewpoint of the guests with very limited sorting options. Friends and family members can order the desired gift online by clicking on the corresponding icon, or visit the local Walmart store and scan the barcode after purchasing it then upload the code to the registry so that others won’t buy a duplicate. The system doesn’t approve of cash registries no matter how noble the purpose is, and so the only way of giving money directly is through special wedding gift cards that can then be used by the couple on a shopping spree later.
Gifts
Walmart Wedding Registry features 12 brands to choose from. These cover all the household items a young couple starting their life together might need. From cookware and kitchen utensils to home decor, bathroom accessories and bedding, the site is chock full of offers. It’s highly recommended to go through the list and gather ideas instead of just adding those that you have in mind. Of course, there is also the Inspirations section, which provides special categories of on-demand items grouped together by Walmart. Here you’ll find the top most requested registry gifts or the magical personalized presents. Interestingly, Walmart doesn’t support the idea of cash registry, and instead promotes the idea of gift cards that can then be used in any store across the country.
Creating Your Wedding Registry
Since we are speaking about a service provided by Walmart, those who already have an account are at an advantage. Otherwise you will need to set up a universal account for the store, where you’ll have to provide some of your basic information, such as name, phone number, location and of course the date of the big day. The registry is assigned to one person by default, but you can add your partner as well. The Walmart Wedding Registry is recommended for down-to-earth couples, since the system features a checklist with recommendations on which types of gifts are a must have and how much of them you might need. The overall design is a bit simplistic, but in a practical standpoint both the users and the guests can easily find what they are looking for.
Customer Service
Walmart Wedding Registry doesn’t have a customer service dedicated to it, and so you are forced to deal with the general helpdesk. On the plus side, the service includes a gift registry category under the “Shopping Walmart.com” topic, meaning it is possible to get in touch with someone knowledgeable about the specific topic. After submitting the ticket you’ll soon be contacted by a staff member via chat. There is a brief introduction to the registry service, but it barely introduces the feature and doesn’t try to preemptively answer the problem you may have. This all reiterates the fact that gift registry is just an add-on service for Walmart.
Bottom Line
We have mixed feelings about Walmart Wedding Registry. On one hand, it’s a competent registry for rounding up the store’s wedding related items and putting them on a convenient wish list. In case you set up a registry, any product can be marked as a gift from the web store, or simply use the smartphone app to scan barcodes. On the other hand, there are very little visual customization or sorting options, not to mention the fact that you are unable to import other registries or add any item from outside of the store’s offerings. This registry feels like bonus feature rather than strong standalone service, but couples who prefer practicality over expensive gifts may welcome Walmart Wedding Registry.

This wedding registry is the worst ever. It partners with companies that do not have the product in stock and can not rectify it when they fail to ship it on time like Wayfair. Also you do not get to leave a congratulations message on the site.
Thanks for nothing Walmart and Wayfair.

Registry is a joke and malfunctioning. Worst no one can help you with correcting misinformation. Bed Bath Beyond are light years ahead of this joke registry program. Spent an hour on phone with a Walmart and they couldn’t correct an issue with a registry listing. Bed Baths d Beyond has corrected similar issues in under 5 minutes total. Run. Don’t aggravate yourself with this unsupported program. Worst I have ever used.

I feel so sorry for the couples who use this registry. We just ordered gifts from it to be delivered to the bride’s address and we observed that we still needed to add a congratulatory note and to let the couple know who the gift was from. THERE IS NO WAY TO DO THAT ON THE WALMART GIFT REGISTRY SITE AS STATED BY MICHAEL IN 2019. Convinced that we just weren’t familIar with the site, we called the groom’s mother who shared, yes, the bride is receiving gifts but is unable to know who the gifts are from. As if weddings are not stressful enough, now, the couple have to go through an exercise of figuring out who to thank properly. It is shocking to us that Walmart would have missed this most important feature during the system operation verification test of the registry site. Still convinced there must be some type of operator error on our part, we called the help desk twice tonight, the initial call was hung up while the help desk was trying to assist. The second call ended when the help desk advised us to cancel the orders and add the notes in the description of the product. We did not see how to do that and at this stage have given up. Unbelievably poor registry programming. . .

Hello Scott, and thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your experience with Walmart Wedding Registry. Indeed, it should be easier for guests to understand where the congratulatory message should be added. This is an essential part of a gift registry, especially when guests order directly from the website and ship the presents right to the couple’s address. However, the bride and groom are able to know who sent them what by using the “Take a peek! See who bought this for you” option, found below the item description. Although not as endearing as getting a personal card, it’s a good way for them to sort out this issue quickly and focus on other important parts of a wedding. Have a good day, and we wish a wonderful wedding to you and the betrothed.

It’s been a while since I last shopped at Walmart for bridal shower gifts. Years in fact! I know things change and technology has raced ahead of us all! However, I was attempting to purchase several items at a Walmart near me today for a young couple who had registered through the Walmart Site Wedding Registry. With cart stocked with several items from the gift registry and the registry print-out in hand I headed to the Customer Service Desk for the check out process. I told the young lady behind the counter I was purchasing several items from a bridal registry. I handed her the print out from the Walmart.com site and asked her to assist me with checking out so the items purchase could be “checked off” of the brides registry list. The lady behind the counter looked at me like I’d asked for the moon! She had no clue how to assist me. Having driven 20+ miles from home and with gas prices near $4.00 a gallon I was determined to find assistance to complete my purchases. I asked is she could find a Manager to get help in completing my purchase and registry transaction. She shuffled from behind the counter and across the floor out of site. Returning a few minutes later she then informed me that I would have to purchase the bride’s selections on-line instead of inside the store in order to get the on-line registry to recognize the items purchased for the bride. I politely said, “OK. Thanks”. I chose not to make a scene and cause other shoppers behind me to wait so I turned my cart away from the Customer Service Desk and walked away. Needless to say after making the long drive to the brick and mortor store only to NOT accomplish my friend’s wedding gift shopping goal, I parked my cart and walked out of the store. Normally I would have put the items back on the shelf but I figured the young lady working the Service Desk could do it since she had extra time on her hands after not being able to assist me. Just one thing to say to WalMart Execs…… the silver haired ladies in our community and churches looking to bless young couples with wedding gifts are likely to not shop on-line nor even have access to computers, printers, phones that scan ….etc. Part of the charm in the South is to go to the store, find a beautiful gift to purchases, wrap and give to the happy couple.
SUGGESTION from KY! Train your employees on how to better serve Walmart customers in this specific area of Wedding/Baby Registry. We want to successfully buy items from the registry and have store personnel to assist us in the check out process or at least help us with the check-out process.
NOT EVERYONE IS INTERESTED IN SHOPPING ON-LINE!
Signed a frustrated shopper in KY!

Hello Terri, and thanks for your comment!
We’re sorry to hear about your experience with Walmart. Unfortunately, the Walmart online registry is designed in a way that you need at least a smartphone with the store’s app in order to check the items off the couple’s list. Indeed, it’s a good suggestion that the should company include a way for people to do this in-store without requiring internet access or more technological devices.
Have a nice day!
